3rd Grade
Quarter 1 (September - November)
Students will spend the first quarter practicing routines and procedures through activities related to Hispanic Heritage Month and Dia de los Muertos. During this time as well, students will be exposed to concepts around identity.
Quarter 2 (November-January)
Students will spend the second quarter learning about different occupations. Students will learn job vocabulary and explore different occupations they want to be when older.
Quarter 3 (February-April)
Students will spend the third quarter learning about hobbies and activities. Students will be able to identify activities they do and do not like and describe favorite activities.
Quarter 4 (April-June)
Students will spend the fourth quarter learning about places in the community. Students will be able to identify vocabulary related to places around the community, activities to do in the community, talk about weekend plans, and compare activities in the U.S. to activities in Spanish-speaking countries.
4th Grade
Quarter 1 (September - November)
Students will spend the first quarter practicing routines and procedures through activities related to Hispanic Heritage Month and Dia de los Muertos.
Quarter 2 (November-January)
Students will spend the second quarter learning about food and beverages. Students will be able to identify vocabulary relating to food and drink, place an order at a restaurant and discuss how culture and food are connected.
Quarter 3 (February-April)
Students will spend the third quarter learning about staying healthy. Students will continue learning about food vocabulary, discuss healthy lifestyles and unhealthy lifestyles relating to food and exercise as well as make choices of food according to the food pyramid.
Quarter 4 (April-June)
To start quarter four, students will take a field trip to the Chicago neighborhood of Pilsen. All fourth grade students and eighth grade students will attend. Students will tour the National Museum of Mexican Art, learn about the beautiful murals on a private mural tour and order food in Spanish at a local mercado. Students will spend the rest of fourth quarter learning about extracurricular activities. Students will learn about places to go when not in school, places to go to have fun, weekend plans and short trips.
